According to a recent report by emarketer, business-to-business (B2B) spending on social media is set to increase dramatically over the next few years.
Outsell, a company who provides business intelligence for publishers and information providers, estimates that B2B marketing on social networks will grow by 43.3% in 2010.
Perhaps even more interesting is Forrester Research’s prediction that B2B firms will spend $4.8 billion on social media marketing by 2014 – an increase of $2.3 billion in comparison to 2009 spend.

Inspired by the “Social Media in the UK” video I saw circulated a few days ago I had a few mins to catch up with Duncan Birch of Simply Zesty about the opportunity for PR in Social Media:
“There are a number of traditional PR agencies now embracing social media as a channel to reach out to a brands audience. This is a great thing because what PR agencies are good at is being creative, creating newsworthy articles and interesting content, managing relationships between the businesses and the public …
Data Visualisation: The Next Challenge.
On Monday 2nd of August at the London Social Media Monday event we hosted a talk with Annie Auerbach, Director & Head of Trends at Flamingo. Enclosed below is a synopsis of the content and the full deck available to view and download.
The digital age and prolificacy go hand in hand. Scientists in California predict that humans and their machines will create more information in the next three years than in the previous 300,000 years of history. Anyone, anywhere, can now create and publish content. The …

The time has come to step away from playing pirate with the Fast Company Influence Project. The last four days have been fun and interesting, but last night Mark Borden left a response to my initial challenge in the comments of the Hijacking post. He stated that Fast Company is not interested in working with ItStartsWith.Us to move this project in [what we think is] a more meaningful direction. He was a gentleman about it, and I would like to be a gentleman in return, …
We’re always looking for new ways to broaden the Social Media Monday offering and I feel excited about the opportunity we have with video since we discussed it at the June event with @FatSand.
At the July event we was joined by video producer Nick Jones who kindly agreed to film and put together some video content from the evening, one is of our audience and some short intros/thoughts, the other of the presentation and the Q&A that followed… We’ll be launching the 2nd very shortly.
To kick us off, I …
Back in mid-May, at our Social Media Monday event in London, John Bottom presented details of The Great Content Marketing Experiment, a presentation come experiment that he was planning to articulate to 200 leading conent marketing executives on Wednesday 19th May at the IDM B2B Marketing Conference – He called it an attempt to ‘convince the sceptics’ that Social Media was a powerful tool in their market. You can download the GCME presentation ‘Convince the Sceptics‘ here)
Since the IDM B2B Conf, John has written a report of his findings and …
At the July London Meet Up we will be hearing from Interaction London about measurement and insight in social media.
Sentiment and listening in particular grab my attention when this topic comes round for discussion. Surely it is just common sense? So common sense in fact all the “Social Media will save your business” and “if you are not on twitter you will die by the end of this sentence” people are so far behind they think they are first.
The technology available merely enhances our ability to do an …
